The need for our own fields has reached the “need to have” point versus the “wouldn’t it be nice” sideline talk. We need to begin raising money to acquire or develop our own soccer complex.
Currently, Harbor Soccer Club pays approximately $118,000 per year for field rental at local schools. This is a significant amount of money and we still do not have adequate availability of fields, especially those with lights.
We have initiated the process and will be pushing forward to create our own complex
(the name Fields Five~Seven comes irom the estimated project length of 5 to 7 years)
Dear Coaches / Managers and Parents:
The board of directors of Harbor Soccer club wants to bring you up to date on a key initiative that could bring us a step closer to resolving our field problems.
For the last year the field committee established by the club has been in dialogue with PenMet Parks relative to the field shortage. After discussing multiple alternatives and the relative costs associated with each, a possible solution has emerged and PenMet has already taken a big action step.
Recently, PenMet Parks District made an offer to purchase the property known as “Performance Golf” which is located on highway 16 near the Narrows Bridge. Harbor Soccer Club currently has their offices located at this location. The property is large enough to develop into four full sized, lit, artificial turf fields.
What do we need from you?
Below is a flyer to update our membership on the “Fields For the Future” initiative. Also below is a signature sheet for you to get as many signatures as possible so the club can show community support for converting the driving range into an athletic complex. The goal is to present Pen Met with as many signatures as possible at their monthly board meeting, which is scheduled to be held Nov. 16th. The top two players who get the most signatures will earn a pizza party for their team!
Action Steps
1. Print out the flyer and signature documents giving one of each to every team member. Have the player write their name on the signature sheet(s) in the space provided.
2. Have the players with the help of their parents get as many signatures as possible. If people are of voting age and support the initiative, have them sign. They do not need a child playing in the club in order to sign the document. Remember to have both moms and dads sign.
3. Have the signature sheet(s) turned back into you by a date that works for you.
4. Place all signature sheets in a sealed envelope and drop them off at the golf center no later than 11/15. A basket/tray will be set up for your convenience.
