2020/21 RCL Player Placement Plan

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, it has always been our hope & intention to have in-person tryouts to begin the 2020/21 season once allowed back on the field.  Over the last week, it has become apparent that this likely will not be possible.

On 4/16/20, the RCL clubs/directors approved "Plan B" in lieu of normal, in-person, tryouts.  This plan from Washington Youth Soccer is posted on our website & it must be followed by all RCL clubs.

How does this plan work?

  • All players intending to play for Harbor Premier for the 2020/21 season register via our tryout registration link by 4/30/20
  • On 5/1/20, Harbor Premier coaching & director staff will place 2019/20 Harbor Premier players on rosters using previous observation/knowledge of the player.  Coaches new to the age group or new to the club will lean on previous coaching staff and directors to guide proper placement
  • Families will be notified of the placement via email and registration link will be provided to secure roster spot
  • On 5/5/20, players that were with other RCL clubs in the 2019/20 season will be eligible to register with a new club for the 2020/21 season.  If you are new to Harbor Soccer and are interested in playing with Harbor Premier for the 2020/21 season, please register via our tryout registration link and contact Jason Jarrett with a brief introduction, playing history/level & any other information you would like us to know about you.   A member of our director staff will reach out to discuss the club & possibilities for the 2020/21 season.  Offers for placement/registration cannot occur before 5/5/20 but communication between the two parties is allowed.

Of course, this plan is not ideal and is uncharted territory for planning teams and placing players correctly.  The possibility of necessary player movement once we are able to return to the field and observe players in a competitive environment exists.  If needed, any such player movement will be discussed thoroughly with the player and family before it occurs.

Please feel free to reach out if you have questions and/or concerns.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate thru this 2020/21 Harbor Premier Player Placement Plan.

Team Placement FAQ

As with any new process, there will often be lots of questions.  We hope the FAQ below will help answer some of what we feel will be the most common.

Q - I am a returning Harbor Premier player.  Am I guaranteed a spot on the same team as last season?

A - No.  All returning Harbor Premier players are guaranteed a spot within the club for the 2020/21 season, but not guaranteed placement on the same team as 2019/20.

Q - Without on-field tryouts and player assessment, how will Harbor Premier coaches make their decisions regarding team placement?

A - Coaches will discuss each and every player with previous coaches and director staff.  Placement will be based on this feedback, performance during the 2019/20 season and the overall player pool for the age group.

Q - Is there a possibility of player movement between teams later in the season?

A - Yes, we expect player movement between teams to occur more than usual this season.  Once we are able to get back on the field and see players in a competitive environment, coaches & directors may feel the need to make adjustments.  Movement will be discussed throughly with the player and player family before occurring.

Q - How did Harbor come up with this tryout/player placement process?

A - This tryout/player placement process has been defined by Washington Youth Soccer in the wake of coronavirus and the ensuing government regulations. This same process is being followed by all member clubs who participate in the Regional Club League (RCL).

Q - What program fees can I expect fo the 2020/21 season?

A - Program fees were set and posted prior to the coronavirus pandemic.  We are currently assessing the situation and we can assure you that program fees will be adjusted according to when we can officially get back on the field.  Upon registration, all players will still be expected to pay the appropriate age group deposit to 'reserve' their spot on the team.

Q - Our financial situation has been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic & we are not sure if we can afford to play Premier soccer.  Is financial assistance available?

A - Yes financial assistance is available through our application process.  Harbor Soccer remains dedicated to making it possible for all players to play Premier soccer regardless of financial status.  Please see financial aid guidelines and application process here.

Q - Do I need to buy a new uniform kit this season?

A - No, this is a non-purchase year for returning players.  Only players new to the club or entering at the youngest ages will need to purchase a uniform kit.
