Elite Academy (EA) – Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Elite Academy (EA)?
Elite Academy (EA) is a nationally sanctioned competitive platform under US Youth Soccer that provides a higher level of league play, development standards, and competitive exposure for clubs and players who are ready for that environment. EA emphasizes player development, meaningful competition, and long-term growth within a structured pathway.

2. Why did Harbor Soccer Club pursue Elite Academy?
Harbor Soccer Club pursued EA as part of a long-term vision to strengthen our competitive pathway. As the regional and national soccer landscape continues to evolve, EA allows Harbor to:

  • Provide appropriate next-step opportunities for players seeking a higher competitive environment

  • Retain and develop players within our club rather than losing them to outside pathways

  • Build long-term sustainability and stability for the club

3. Which age groups will participate in Elite Academy?
There is mandatory participation for the U13 - U19 EA team in the league. U11 and U12 are optional, but HSC is going to have these teams participate in the EA and also supplement their schedule with the RCL as well.

4. Is Elite Academy mandatory for all Harbor players?
No. Participation in EA is optional and designed for players and families who feel it is the right fit for their goals, commitment level, and stage of development. Harbor will continue to offer multiple pathways so players can thrive in environments that best support their growth.

5. What happens if my player is not selected for an EA team?
Players not selected for EA will continue to be supported within Harbor’s competitive pathway. This will likely mean being offered placement on an RCL team.

6. How does the new age-change (birth-year alignment) affect EA teams?
Beginning with the 2026–27 season, U.S. Soccer and its affiliated organizations will move to a school-year age group alignment (August 1 – July 31). This age alignment applies to all USYS competitions and is not unique to EA. While birth year determines eligibility, players will not be moved automatically solely due to the age-change or EA participation.

7. Can players play up or play down an age group in EA?
Movement between age groups is governed by US Youth Soccer and EA guidelines and reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Here is a link to our play-up policy. https://dt5602vnjxv0c.cloudfront.net/portals/83940/docs/harbor%20premier%20%20play-up%20policy-2.pdf

8. What is the coaching standard for EA teams?
Harbor soccer will evaluate coaches and determine who is the best fit for our EA teams. However, an EA coach must have a minimum of a C-level coaching certificate or must be in the process of working towards a C-level coaching certificate.

9. What are the travel and time commitments for EA?
EA includes league matches and select events that may require regional travel.

10. How does EA support long-term development and college pathways?
EA provides a competitive environment with appropriate exposure opportunities for players who aspire to play beyond youth soccer.

11. What if EA is not the right fit for my player?
Harbor will continue to support players in pathways that best serve their development and well-being.
